Abstract. Human populations are continuously exposed to drug use to either recover or maintain certain living conditions, through a therapeutic result. Objective: To describe and analyze the critical points in the consumption of Hormonal Contraceptives (AH ) in a female college population. Materials and Methods: An observational, descriptive study: The critical points are inherent to the procedure were evaluated from 46% of the medical records -354- and 100% physical requirements for a year and from surveys of 71% of volunteers prescribers points related to critical patient surveys assessed from 21 % voluntary and biopharmaceutical quality was established for three brands of AH prescribed more in the area of Student health at the National University. Results: Population between 18 and 31 years; 91.46 % single; Socioeconomic 45.95% 3; Regarding the prescription pattern: Prescription AHC 97.32 % of which 39.08 % are fourth generation COCs . The therapeutic quality of prescribing in the population own 17 medical conditions , presented a 76.47 % compliance against the medical eligibility criteria for contraceptive use WHO. Main mistakes in terms of how aspects indicate that 17.99 % reported an error related to the concentration , the DCI is used in 98.8 %. For perceptions of usage: 76.79 % used no condom AH- double protection (AB ); the trust medical advice to start the TAC . Regarding the usage pattern : The 38.24% have had an exposure to contraceptives between 1 and two years. With leftover drugs the most common behavior is left stored with other medicines in a 46.45 %. Regarding adherence: test and the self fulfilling 68.64 % are non-compliant . Regarding the perception of the program : There is compliance with regulatory requirements by 86 % , strengths identified in the medical and administrative staff and opportunities for improvement in the dissemination and service coverage. Regarding the interchangeability of Biopharmaceutical quality contraceptives study found that if a brand is interchangeable with the reference drug taken and the other not . Conclusions : Positive factors as compliance against regulatory parameters were found ; Low adhesion , misperceptions before the simultaneous use of AH- AB, negative attitudes towards the disposal of AH and lack of therapeutic equivalence between drugs of the same active principle as negative factors were also found.Maestrí

Quality assessment of sardines during storage by measurement of fluorescent compounds

5 páginas, 2 figuras, 5 tablasSardine alterations during chilled storage (0°C) were investigated by measuring the fluorescence ratio between two excitation/emission maxima (393/463 nm, 327/415 nm) and compared with common quality indices. Sardines were also maintained at 15°C to accelerate all reactions occurring at 0°C. Other quality indices (total volatile base-nitrogen, free fatty acids, formation of conjugated dienes, and thiobarbituric acid values) were determined and the use of the fluorescence ratio (fluorescence shift, δF) was analyzed. A high correlation was found between the δF and the total volatile base-nitrogen (r = 0.93, at 0°C; r = 0.92, at 15°C).Xunta de Galicia (Project XUGA 402 01B93).Peer reviewe

5 páginas, 5 tablas, 1 figura.-- The final publication is available at www.springerlink.comA comparison of the lipid damage produced in different hake zones was carried out during frozen storage at –11 and –18 7C. Three light muscle zones and the dark muscle were considered. Lipid oxidation [conjugated dienes; thiobarbituric acid index (TBA-i); fluorescence formation] and hydrolysis (free fatty acids, FFA) were determined. The most predominant lipid damage in all zones was hydrolysis, at the end of storage reaching values of about 40% (for the light muscle zones) and 12% (for the dark muscle) of the total lipids at –11 7C. Significant (P~0.05) correlation value (rp0.67–0.85) relationships between the frozen storage time and the FFA content were obtained for the four muscle zones at both temperatures. A comparison of the regression lines slopes in the different zones showed that a lower (P~0.05) lipolitic activity was produced in the dark muscle compared to the three light zones at both temperatures. A low lipid oxidation development was produced in the three light muscle parts, so that no significant differences between them could be assessed. However, the dark muscle showed a higher oxidation development (TBA-i and fluorescence formation) as a result of a higher lipid content and the presence of prooxidant constituents.European Community, Research Projects FAIR-CT95–1111 and AIR 3-CT94–1921.Peer reviewe

The moral rights of the named author(s) have been asserted.Skin collagen of six discarded fish species was analyzed and compared. Acid soluble collagen (ASC) was extracted; a characteristic sodium dodecyl sulfate- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) profile for type I collagen was obtained, except for Chimaera mostrosa. Contents of collagen calculated from HPro (31.85% average) were higher than those determined from ASC extracts (17.75% average), with Galeus spp. being the species with the higher percentage. Amino acid analysis revealed the typical composition of collagen, with very few differences among species. Specific profiles were obtained after protease digestion. Denaturation temperature of ASC correlated well with imino and hydroxyproline contents. Results demonstrate the feasibility of using the obtained collagens in different industrial applicationsThis work was funded by European Union FEDER POCTEP Project 0330_IBEROMARE_1_P, European Union FEDER Atlantic Area Project MARMED-2011-1/164, Xunta de Galicia Project 10TAL011E, and a contract with the “Cooperativa de Armadores del Puerto de Vigo” and FROM (Ministery of Environment, Rural and Maritime Affairs, Spain)Peer reviewe

9 páginasThe purpose of this work was to evaluate the suitability of a method based on the presence of two restriction sites (for Hae III and Hindf I) in the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (mt ND5) gene to identify Scomber species. The evaluation was performed on 144 reference and market samples by sequencing of the entire 505-bp fragment of the mt ND5 gene and of a 464-bp fragment of the Kocher fragment of the cytochrome b gene (mt Cytb). Sequence analysis of any of the two fragments allows the identification of each of the four Scomber species, but S. japonicus and S. colias had the same restriction sites at the ND5 amplicon and would not have been differentiated by this analysis. Similarly, loss of the Hae III site in some S. scombrus individuals would have misidentified them as not being Scomber. All the market products were correctly labeled except one acquired in Spain labeled as originating in the Atlantic and containing S. japonicusPeer reviewe
